Sulfated ashing techniques have traditionally required the sample to be charred over an open flame, and then placed inside the muffle furnace for further ashing. Not only is this technique extremely labor intensive and time-consuming but it can pose significant safety hazards as the operator is continually exposed to acid fumes.

Milestone’s PYRO SA Microwave Sulfated Ashing System eliminate these issues. The PYRO-SA features the VAC-1000 Acid Scrubber which safely and efficiently neutralizes sulfuric acid fumes generated during the process. The operator simply weighs each samples into a crucible, adds H₂SO₄, and loads the samples into the furnace cavity.  A multi-step method can be programmed to first char, and then ash the samples while the VAC-1000 continually removes and neutralizes fumes from the furnace cavity. This eliminates any operator involvement in the charring step, making the process more efficient and - more importantly - safer. The PYRO-SA is the safest, fastest, and most efficient way to do sulfated ashing.
